London Zoo

London Zoo

London Zoo has it’s name in the credits of some of the country’s best-loved films. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone incorporates the historic buildings established by Sirs Stamford Raffles and Humphrey Davy in 1826. Its Reptile House, where Harry first speaks to snakes, is a favourite among fans. The zoo can be also be seen in 1981 horror-comedy An American Werewolf in London and 2002’s Hugh Grant-starring About a Boy. In addition, the zoo’s entrance was used as the exterior of the All England Lawn Tennis Club for Brit rom-com Wimbledon, released in 2004.

Contrary to popular belief, the nickname Big Ben actually refers to the great bell of Westminster's clock tower rather than the clock itself. Construction of the tower was completed in 1859, with the first strikes of the bell heard on 31 May of that year.
