Jennifer Aniston talks to Welcome to London about playing a raunchy man-eater in Horrible Bosses and her forthcoming film, Wanderlust.
Q: What was it about Horrible Bosses that made you want to be in it?
A: It was such a different direction for me, so I jumped at the chance when I was asked to do it. It’s not something I usually get handed.
Q: The scene in the dentist’s chair really pushed the boundaries. Was it awkward for you?
A: Oddly, none of it was awkward, just fun.
Q: How did you feel with a different look? We’re so used to seeing you with blonde hair!
A: I fought really hard to be brunette and loved the result. The directors wanted me to look the same but I didn’t think it would work so pushed for something different. We called it ‘Hairgate’.
Q: Is this role your first step into doing different types of films?
A: It’s my first type of role like this but I’ve played different characters before, like in The Good Girl and Derailed, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction and something different.
Q: You still look like you’re in your 20s. Can you imagine playing this role in your 20s?
A: God no.
Q: What does it take to play such a role now?
A: The older you get, the more comfortable you are in your body and skin. You have more of a ‘fuck it’ attitude that you didn’t have in your 20s.
Q: How important is yoga in your life?
A: Very. If I’m not doing it regularly then my spirit sort of just ‘goes’.
Q: What’s next for UK fans?
A: I filmed Wanderlust last fall with Friends’ co-star Paul Rudd. It tells the story of a couple who move out of the city to become more self-sufficient. It screens here in November.
