Sick and tired of the same old clubs? While London’s gay scene traditionally centres on the pubs of Soho, the city has plenty of alternative nights for those after something a bit different.

Don your best vintage clobber for Cockabilly, a rockabilly disco taking place on the second Friday of every month at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. Those seeking something more laid-back should check out First Out Cafe Bar, London’s first gay and lesbian cafe, offering vegetarian food, Fairtrade coffee and a range of cocktails, plus regular poetry readings and art exhibitions.

London’s queer community project, Bar Wotever, host a range of events at different venues around the city, including a night at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern every Tuesday. With a mixed and welcoming crowd, the club is accepting of everyone regardless of how they identify, and features regular performances by queer artists, secret gigs and film nights.

If your funny bone is in need of a tickling, head to The Royal Vauxhall Tavern for Scott Capurro’s Position, a live comedy chatshow with witty banter and sharp jokes from the San Franciscan comedian. The show is back for five weeks in October, with a raft of celebrities lined up for their turn in the spotlight.
