A London institution as far as jazz clubs go. Its basement location gives it a homely, smokey, pub-like atmosphere, and in keeping with this it serves delicious food.
London Underground's first escalators were fitted into Earl's Court station in 1911 and tested by a one-legged man named Bumper Harris. He constantly rode the escalator in an effort to prove to sceptics the safety and stability of the new moving stairway.
