Why go? The most-visited city in England except London offers a wealth of history and entertainment — from the Roman baths which gave the city its name to its excellent shopping centre and nightlife. The many historic buildings and museums include the beautiful Bath Abbey, founded in the seventh century. The city hosts a variety of events, including Dressing the Stars - British Costume Design at the Academy Awards from 12 July to 29 August. Also, Roman Baths by Torchlight shows the ruins of this major attraction in a different light, running from 1 July to 31 August.
