Why go? Home of one of the world’s most famous universities, this is a vibrant place, full of all the museums and theatres you might expect around a major university city as well as interesting pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops. Try punting on the River Cam, browse a bookshop or hire a bicycle to explore the maze of streets. Cambridge University and its 31 colleges have atmospheric cobbled courts, chapels, gardens and bridges as well as some surprising modern architecture. The city’s fine museum collection includes the Fitzwilliam Museum, the art and antiquities museum of the University that’s often described as the finest small museum in Europe.
